The
water surrounding Watch Hill, Rhode Island makes for one of the finest
fishing spot on the entire Atlantic shoreline. This is the place
where the fertile estuarine flow of Long Island Sound meets the open ocean
and extreme reefs of rock and kelp and powerful gamefish. Major
forage species like alewives, squid and menhaden spawn in Long Island,
Fishers Island and Block Island Sounds, leaving both adult and juvenile
species at the mercy of the swift flows found at The Race and the Watch
Hill Reefs.
Watch
Hill fishes well all season - various baits, blitzing bass and blues and
several pelagic species can be found in abundance from May through
November. You'd be hard-pressed to find an area in the
northeastern states, never mind New England, where such a potpourri of
life brews day-in, day out like the Watch Hill and Fishers Island area.
