The striped bass is the primary target in the Watch Hill area.  They range in size from twelve inches to thirty pounds or better.  Stripers are interesting, as they are highly versatile and can be caught in a variety of environments; from rips to rocks to sandy coves.

Blues are very common (sometimes too common!) throughout most of the season.  They range in size from small "harbor" blues of a few pounds all the way up to jumbo-size "gaters".  Bring plenty of flies - bluefish have nasty teeth that make short work of feathers and fur.

Bonito are a prized catch on both fly and spin tackle.  Fast and tricky, they're a real challenge.  Most of the IGFA Fly Rod World Records have come from the Watch Hill area, including the six-pound tippet record which was caught on the Lauren B in 1994.

False albacore are the most prevalent tuna species in the Atlantic Ocean and they love the strong rip currents surrounding Watch Hill, Fishers Island and The Race.  Strong and speedy, albies are thrilling to catch on any tackle.

The king of the sea!  You can't count on school bluefin tuna most of the season, but they usually hang around for a little while during July and August.  Have your 12-weight and a fresh spool of 20-pound tippet on hand for these bruisers.
